Toby Davis announced as the winner of the Team HARD VW Scholarship

After three rounds designed to test the scholars' skills on and off track, Toby Davis has come away as the winner and will receive a fully-funded drive in the VW Cup with Team HARD. this year.

As was the case with many of the finalists, Toby's racing experience comes mostly from karting but during the scholarship he showed so much promise in the car as well as during the fitness and media tests that the team is keen to see what he can do in a competitive environment.

Team boss Tony Gilham said: “The scholarship worked perfectly and we've got a great driver who is no doubt going to go on to do great things this season. He's quick on track and has the necessary fitness too. He also shone in the media test with Louise Goodman at the second round so we're all eager to see how he gets on this season.”

Davis is looking forward to the season and is ready to go hard and show the team and fans what he can do. He said: “There isn’t a better opportunity in motorsport than the one provided by Team-HARD. To be part of a team with both the pedigree and the spread of talent in many different championships is massive for a young driver looking to progress in the sport, and I’m so grateful to Tony and the team for putting their faith in me.

“The team is well-connected and I’ve never met a group of harder workers, and to win the scholarship means that my personal dream of one day competing in the BTCC is now a tangible possibility rather than remaining purely a dream! I can't rest on my laurels, and I have to work extremely hard to do as well as I can in the VW Cup, and hopefully I can find the budget to compete for Team-HARD. in 2017 and beyond – be that in the VW Cup or one of the other opportunities Team-HARD. provides. Who knows, maybe I’ll be on the BTCC grid in 2017!”
The 2017 scholarship is now open for entries and anyone interested in the chance to win a £100k fully funded drive next year should contact the team on Facebook or call 01634 711889.

Gilham added: “Toby may have won the drive for 2016 but we're keen to help our other finalists and scholars in any way we can and we already have a number of them with us for the VAG Trophy this year. It just goes to show that no matter your experience, it pays to take that leap of faith.”

The three other scholars signed by the team for the VAG Trophy are currently running first, second and third in the championship.
