Fuller makes TeamHARD Return

Howard Fuller will drive an RCIB Insurance Racing Vauxhall Insignia at the next two Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship events at Rockingham and Silverstone.

Fuller drove for the Team HARD-run squad in the BTCC last season and had been scheduled to contest selected rounds this year after signing a deal with the Kent-based outfit ahead of the current campaign. Surrey driver Fuller made his BTCC bow at Rockingham last season in a Honda Civic where he took a solid 12th place finish and then went on to go one better at Silverstone a few weeks’ later – impressive results for a young debutant.

“Tony has given me the opportunity and I am absolutely delighted,” said Fuller. “It has been a little tough watching the season at times but we knew the chance would come so now I just can’t wait to get out there.

“I think we did a pretty solid job last year and although I’m still relatively new to the BTCC, I’m not new to racing. I’ll just approach it like it’s another race and I’ll be out to do the best job I can do.”

The 21-year-old won a VW Cup race for Tony Gilham’s team at Rockingham before being promoted to his BTCC squad for two outings later in the 2012 season, and now he’s set to contest rounds at the same two venues over the coming weeks.

“My career seems to have a lot of links with Rockingham,” Fuller commented. “I won my first VW Cup race there and also made my BTCC debut there - now I’m going back to make my first BTCC appearance this season. I have good memories of the circuit and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Fuller has already enjoyed a run in the Insignia during the Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton in July, and he’s confident in both the ability of the car and the team.

“I had a little run in the car at Snetterton so at least I won’t be completely new to it when free practice gets underway next week,” he concluded. “We know the car is good – I’ve obviously seen the progress Jack Goff has made with it but also having been close with the team during the build process of the cars and throughout the course of this year I know how hard everyone has worked.”

Having built a relationship with Howard over the last few years, team boss Gilham is delighted to see one of his young chargers back behind the wheel of an Insignia, alongside the returning Goff. “Howard has been patient but he’s finally got his chance, which is great,” he said. “We know Howard has the speed, as he showed last season, so we’re all looking forward to seeing him in the car.”
