Team HARD. Racing are delighted to announce that Carl Boardley will remain with the team for the 2020 British Touring Car Championship campaign in a recently acquired BMW 1 Series.
Carl, who is a multiple National Hot Rod World Champion will return for another season with Team HARD. Racing with which he made his debut in the series in 2018. Carl has multiple years of experience in Motorsport and initially raced his Ginetta G55 in the 2018 Supercup under the Team HARD Banner.
Carl is looking forward to getting behind the wheel of his self – purchased BMW 1 Series for the first time over the winter.
“I’m over the moon to be back in the BTCC for 2020. I will admit that the 2019 season had its demons, but we used it to find our feet and understand the workings of the BTCC. The car has the potential to mix it at the front, so when this opportunity became available, I just had to jump at the chance.”
“There were several options available but when WSR mentioned the availability of an established winning car, I couldn’t help but take an interest.
I have a great working relationship with Tony and his Team HARD. Racing squad so this is a fantastic fit for everyone involved. I’m really looking forward to trying the BMW 1 Series out over the coming months as we aim to hit the ground running at the season opener at Donington Park.”
Team HARD. Racing are no stranger to rear wheel drive race cars with their current Ginetta involvement, but the addition of Boardley’s BMW 1 Series will be the team’s first taste of running rear wheel drive machinery in the BTCC as they begin to look at options for future seasons.
Managing Director, Tony Gilham is glad to have Carl back for a second successive season and is looking to utilise Carl’s experience to improve on the 2019 season.
“We have developed a great relationship with Carl over the years he been with us and the 2019 season was a challenging one, but there were still moments when Carl was able to demonstrate his natural ability behind the wheel.
I’m delighted that we have been able to bring the BMW name within our team, I loved the BTCC car I drove back in 2012 and I’m glad that Carl could get a deal with WSR to get them to hand over their hugely successful 1 series.
We have relative inexperience with rear wheel drive machinery in the BTCC but firmly believe that Carl is the man to help steer us in the right direction with it. His years of experience and race engineering ability are really going to aid the development and understanding of the BMW 1 Series.
I’m sure much of the BTCC paddock and racing enthusiasts know, that our time with our beloved Volkswagen CC’s is coming to an end due to the current regulations which means we have a maximum of two years left with these cars. It’s a good time to start exploring all avenues for the coming seasons as we look for a worthy successor. With the extensive developments we’ve made to the CC’s and the addition of the rear wheel drive BMW, this is the perfect start to this process!”
Carl made his debut in the BTCC with Team HARD. Racing in 2018 as a guest entry in the hills of Scotland at the iconic Knockhill circuit in Fife.
Carl will be looking to be amongst the points from the get go in his newly acquired BMW 1 Series as the championship heads to Donington Park for the opening round of the season over the weekend of the 28th-29th March.
Mike Bushell is set to make his return to Team HARD. Racing as team mate to Jack Goff completing a very exciting partnership.
Mike, who was Team HARD. Racing’s top points scorer the last time he raced for the team in 2018 replaced Sam Tordoff for the final three rounds of the 2019 championship, putting in a string of solid top 10 results. Out of the driving seat for the majority of the 2019 season, Mike was able to demonstrate his engineering prowess as he guided Rory Butcher to his maiden Independents championship.
With a wealth of experience both in and out of the car, Mike is hoping to break onto the podium in 2020.
“I am looking forward to returning to Team HARD. Racing for the 2020 BTCC season so I can carry on with the great progress that was made during 2018.
Unfortunate circumstances meant that I was unable to take part in the 2019 season and instead I spent my time helping engineer Rory Butcher to the Independent Drivers Title. A short spell as a substitute for Sam Tordoff for the last 3 rounds in the Honda Civic re-kindled my desire to race.
With help from Fox Transport, I am able to return to the grid full time for 2020 and Team HARD. Racing can offer me a chance to be involved in the engineering side as well as driving. A year on the side-lines has helped with my technical understanding and I look forward to extracting the most out of the VW CC once again”
Tony Gilham, Managing Director of Team HARD. Racing is overjoyed to have what he sees as arguably one of the strongest pairings on the 2020 BTCC grid.
“First and foremost, I am delighted to bring Mike back into the team after a year away. We are good friends away from the track and it was a very difficult decision that we collectively had to make back in March.
I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and to have Jack and Mike as a two-car pairing in 2020 is just fantastic. I’m sure many will join me in thinking that this is one of the strongest pairings that will grace the BTCC grid next season.
Mike has already been using his engineering prowess and experience from 2019 to push the VW CC’s on to the next level. They may have been around since 2013 but there is plenty of speed still to be unlocked and 2020 will see a vastly improved car!”
Jack Goff, Mike’s teammate for the 2020 BTCC campaign is looking forward to the challenge of racing alongside him in the same machinery.
“I’m really looking forward to working alongside Mike next season. He is a fast driver and has proven his speed over the years and we’ve had many on track battles during the 2018 season.
This motorsport business is a funny one. I replaced Mike in his car at the start of the 2019 season on the eve of media day which was tricky for everyone concerned for varying reasons. Mike then replaced Sam (Tordoff) at the end of 2019 which was actually my car from 2018 and now we are racing alongside each other. A small and crazy world indeed!
I believe 2020 is going to be another very competitive year, and I can’t wait to get started with Mike on our winter testing programme and to come out fighting.”
Mike burst back into the BTCC scene with Team HARD. Racing in 2018 after two years away from the series. On his return Mike scored a double top 10 finish which included a career best finish of 5th in a season which put Mike firmly on the BTCC map.
Team HARD. Racing has yet more exciting news today as we grow on our already well-established partnership with Autobrite Direct. The partnership originates from 2017 whereby Autobrite supplied Team HARD. Racing with quality products for our motorsport regime. They’ve been helping all 30+ of the teams’ cars gleam on track ever since.
Now the team are all settled in at our new HQ in Maidstone, we now have the space for our very own showroom and shop facility. As a team we have selected a small group of our suppliers and partners to fill the showroom with their excellent products to offer to our customers. It’s very much all about quality rather than quantity.
Autobrite Direct was created in 2005 by Mark and Jill to replace an existing successful mobile valeting operation (Prestige Valeting) after spotting a gap in the market for a high quality, independent car care specialist supplier.
In those early days, Autobrite was run by Mark and his wife Jill, from a spare bedroom in their home, bottling, labelling and packing products by hand.
Today, Autobrite Direct is an industry leading and world-famous provider of bespoke, high quality car care and detailing products. Autobrite Direct is on the cutting edge of new technologies and product development for the fast-growing detailing industry. Unlike other providers, Autobrite invest heavily into R&D of new products and all their products are exclusive to us rather than rebottling and relabelling off the shelf solutions.
Autobrite have been flooding the market in the North of the country for several years now as their HQ and showroom is based in Stoke-on-Trent. They also have a huge online shop and social media following. Team Hard. Racing and Autobrite saw an opportunity to set up a hub for their products in our vast premises. From here we’ll be able to offer everything that Autobrite sells. We will have an Autobrite display of selected products in our showroom and anything that we don’t have we can order in. We will also have an Autobrite shop on our Team Hard. Racing website.
Team HARD. Racing’s Sales Manager, Steve Johnson, is over the moon with this latest achievement.
“This is brilliant news for both us at Team Hard. Racing and Autobrite Direct. The car cleaning and valeting business has grown massively over the last few years and this is the perfect time for Autobrite to grow and we have the infrastructure to help with that. Having our showroom and shop stocked with Autobrite products and the option to order their products in, gives our customers the support and access to Autobrite’s high quality and second to none products. We look forward to a prosperous future with them.”
Autobrite’s co-director Jill Moss is excited with the growth of the partnership between them and the team.
“We are extremely excited to be working with Team HARD. Racing and expanding our partnership to include an Autobrite shop at their impressive HQ. The shop will be the only stockist of Autobrite products in Kent which is a huge bonus for both companies.”
The showroom opens this Saturday 30th November and you can join us for free at HQ where we’re hosting an open day with a race car line up, the opening of our shop / showroom, car display, BBQ, merchandise, giveaways and much more! Unit 3 Detling Aerodrome, Maidstone, Kent. ME14 3HU.
Team HARD. Racing can today confirm an exciting new opportunity as an authorised dealer and fitter for worldwide famous K&N® Filters. Team Hard. Racing can now offer a service to our customers whereby they can purchase directly from our new showroom at our HQ in Maidstone, order online through our shop and have them fitted by our highly trained race mechanics in our workshop. Team Hard. Racing are also delighted to be using K&N® filters for our 2020 British Touring Car campaign.
In the early 1960s, two motorcycle racers, Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald (K&N), developed a ground-breaking new idea for an air filter—one that could perform under the demands of dusty, dirty off-road environments. After experimenting with numerous types of filter media, they discovered that an oiled cotton design allowed the filter to not only capture contaminants very efficiently, but also allowed it to be washed and reused, and the original K&N® High-Flow Air Filter™ was born. Five decades later, K&N® is still innovating industry-leading filtration technology and offers outstanding protection for everything from top-fuel dragsters to commuter vehicles across the globe.
In addition to performance air filters, K&N® now manufactures a variety of other protection and performance products, including air intake systems, oil filters, fuel filters, cabin air filters, and home air filters, with a reputation for exceptional quality and customer service that millions of customers trust.
K&N® has maintained active involvement in racing and motorsports throughout its history and has sponsored championship-winning teams in most subdisciplines of motorsport. A long and storied racing heritage continues to contribute to the development of products for all types of vehicles and engines.
Team HARD. Racing’s BTCC manager, Jamie Warren, is delighted to be working with K&N® Filters for the foreseeable future. “Over the Winter refresh we constantly revise and research the product(s) and parts that we use on our BTCC. We must look at what options we have and what we believe is best for our cars for the next season. K&N® Filters are famous for being the best in the business and I’m excited to have them onboard for 2020. It’s also a great opportunity for us to be an authorised dealer and fitter for K&N® in our new HARD. Performance workshop.”
David Hill, Sales Manager for K&N® is excited for the future working together. “We’re delighted to start working with Team Hard and proud to have them as our newest Official Dealer. As well as access to the full range of K&N® products, they will also be able to offer a full installation service. It’s also great that Team Hard has chosen us to be their filter supplier for their 2020 BTCC campaign. We’re also delighted to have been invited to the teams open day this coming Saturday (30th Nov), to which we’ll be bringing our display stand, some products and will be on hand to answer any questions that people may have.”
