Mark Wakefield Tony GilhamWe are excited to announce that Mark has joined Team-HARD for 2018 and will be competing in this years Volkswagen Racing Cup in a Golf GTi.

Mark said “I have raced Minis for four years now and I’m ready for a new challenge. My aim for the season is to get on the podium as often as I can, I’ve tasted success in the Mini Challenge and intend to carry that through to the VW Racing Cup. Team-HARD are a great team and I’m lucky to have them behind me. They will supply me with a great car, I just need to provide the results which I’m confident I can do. The first round can’t come quick enough and I can’t wait to compete in the car, in testing it’s proved really quick and great to drive.”

“Our aim is for Mark to do the same [as Bobby],” said Tony Gilham, the team’s principal. “As a team we chase drivers we want to work with, and we feel he’s a perfect fit. What I like about him is his raw, natural ability. However he has the determination and ambition to go with it. We encourage drivers to plan ahead, and I’ve told him we’re looking at this as a two-year project.”

“Mark will spend 2018 getting up to speed with the car and the team, while still trying to win of course, before becoming our number one contender next season.”

The first round of the VW Racing Cup will be at Silverstone over Easter weekend (31 March – 1 April). We wish him every success for the season, you can follow Mark’s progress on Social Media and his website.
